December 10, 2019, FUSD Board of Education Meeting – Measure E Bond Program

Regarding meeting items related to facilities and construction, the Board:

 

  • Received a presentation on the updated Implementation Plan for the remaining projects of the Measure E Bond Program, approved the updated budget allocation, and authorized staff to proceed with Group 1 projects in the amount of $33.1 million. (4-1, Sweeney opposed.) As part of the motion, the Board also requested staff to bring back an additional recommendation for the Kennedy High School modernization project at a future meeting in Jan. or Feb. 2020.

 

On January 30, 2019, the Board requested the Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC) review, make recommendations and bring back suggestions for reprioritizing the remaining bond funds. On June 5, 2019, the Board received a presentation with options and a recommendation from the FAC on the prioritization and reallocation of the remaining Measure E projects and funds. The Board approved Option 2, prioritizing elementary school modernization based on those sites with asbestos flooring, the FAC’s highest ranked priority, and authorized staff to produce this comprehensive revised implementation plan.

 

  • Authorized staff to amend the agreement with HKIT Architects in the amount of $852,495 for the new construction and modernization project at Hopkins Middle School. The total contract value is now $4,261,345. On October 30, 2019, the Board received a presentation on the new construction and modernization project at Hopkins and provided direction to proceed with Option 2B. The selection of Option 2B increased the overall Hopkins Middle School conversion project scope and budget by $15,960,919. The increased architectural fee was accounted for in the Option 2B budget increase presented at the October 30, 2019 meeting.
