COVID-19 Overview

Fremont Unified COVID-19 Protocols, effective January 22, 2024

  • Students and staff must continue to report COVID-19 cases to their school/supervisor.
  • Isolation requirements for positive cases:
    • For COVID-19 cases with symptoms, with or without fever, students/staff may return if:
      • 24 hours have passed with no fever, without the use of fever-reducing medications, AND
      • their symptoms are mild and improving.
    • For COVID-19 cases with no symptoms, there is no period of isolation or exclusion. If symptoms develop, the criteria above will apply.
  • Face coverings following a COVID-19 diagnosis (with or without symptoms) are:
    • Recommended for students through day 10, or following two sequential negative tests at least one day apart. Day 0 is symptom onset date or positive test date.
    • Required for employees through day 10 per Cal/OSHA guidance for workplaces. Day 0 is symptom onset date or positive test date.
  • Close contact notifications and testing opportunities will be provided to staff exposed at the workplace to individuals with COVID-19 during their infectious period.

Guidance for Students with Symptoms (not COVID-19)

For students with symptoms of illness who test negative for COVID-19, please refer to California Department of Public Health guidance on when a student should stay home from school, available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and additional languages here.

Previous Protocols (Reference Only)

  • Please stay home when sick or following a positive COVID-19 test result.
  • In alignment with California Department of Public Health guidance COVID-19 positive individuals must isolate for five days, then may return to school/work — regardless of testing — as long as they’re feeling well, have improving symptoms and are fever-free for 24 hours.
  • Face coverings following a COVID-19 diagnosis will be:
  • Close contact notifications and testing opportunities will only be provided to staff exposed to COVID-19 in the workplace as outlined in Cal/OSHA guidance.
  • FUSD will maintain compliance with all applicable Cal/OSHA requirements for employers.
