C&I Initiatives Dashboard

The Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) Department provides teachers with the curriculum and training they need in order to deliver high quality, responsive instruction.  This dashboard summarizes the current status of major key initiatives in Curriculum and Instruction. Curriculum initiatives are generally adoptions of new standards-aligned materials for use in teaching. Instruction initiatives are generally resources and/or professional development designed to support best instructional practices.

Curriculum French 4 - The Board of Education approved the staff recommendation to adopt Face-a-face (Vista Higher Learning, 2021) as the new French 4 distinct-adopted curriculum at the October 13, 2021 Board Meeting.  Teachers and students will be receiving the new curriculum this year. COMPLETE

6-8 History-Social Studies adoption - After a thoughtful and careful evaluation process, the adoption committee has reached a final recommendation of Savvas' myWorld World and US History*.  Their recommendation will go before the Board in February.

*This  publisher passed a vetting process and was approved by the State Board of Education for grades 6-8.

Curriculum K-5 Science adoption - The committee began the prescreen process of reviewing NGSS-aligned and state-approved K-5 science curriculum. Three programs were identified for further evaluation.  The final two options will be piloted so the committee can provide an adoption recommendation to the Board. PROGRESS
Curriculum AP Computer Science Principles adoption -  On October 27, 2021 the Board of Education approved the staff recommendation to adopt Cengage Invitation to Computer Science, 8th edition for the AP Computer Science Principles course for grades 11-12.  Teachers and students will be receiving the new curriculum this year. COMPLETE
Curriculum Pre-Calculus adoption - Committee has completed initial review of Precalculus curriculum and has identified 3 programs to pilot beginning January, 2022. These programs include:

Cengage Precalculus Mathematics for Calculus, Stewart et al.
McGraw Hill Precalculus, Miller & Gerken

Curriculum Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Curriculum adoption - Committee began the review process in December to identify a new TK-12 social emotional health curriculum. For more information, please click here. PROGRESS

Curriculum TK Curriculum adoption - Due to the recent changes to TK eligibility, a new TK curriculum is needed to support our youngest learners. PRE-PLAN
Curriculum & Instruction Climate Literacy - Climate Literacy: In response to FUSD Board Resolution 030-2021, C&I has formed a Climate Literacy and Environmental Education Network (CLEEN) that is comprised of teachers and students from across the district that will convene in the 2021-2022 school year to draft a vision for climate literacy and environmental education and begin to outline a plan/recommendations to achieve that vision. Instruction SEL Curriculum - Reintegration lessons and resources were provided to teachers in June and August to support students coming back to school this fall. Administrators and site teacher liaisons were trained on key practices to support the social emotional needs of students, staff, and families. COMPLETE

History Social Studies Instructional Practices -

► Development of instructional practices aligned to the K-12 CA HSS Framework

► Three Phases: Phase 1- Spring, 2021, Phase 2 - Fall/Winter 2021, Phase 3 - Spring 2022

Phase 3: (In-progress):  HSSIPG teachers will share out observations and reflections on instructional practice and begin compile a best practices guide for teachers.

Phase 2: (Complete) HSSIPG teachers identified and tested instructional practices that align with the literacy, inquiry, citizenship domains of the California History Social Science Framework C&I is also offered a 4-part FAIR Education Act PD series based on the HSSIPG work from spring 2021.

Phase 1: (Completed) The HSSIPG outlined framework-aligned shifts in instruction and received professional development to better understand the FAIR Education Act and the newly released Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum.
