California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)
CAASPP 2023 District Testing Window: February 27 - June 2, 2023. (Schools set their own testing windows within the district testing window.)
For the 2023 spring administration of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 will take the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) tests in English language arts and mathematics. Grade 5, 8, and 12 students will take the California Science Test (CAST).
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is the state academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career. CAASPP includes computer adaptive tests in English language arts, mathematics, and science. Students in grades 3-8 and 11 will take the computer adaptive tests in English and math in the spring. Students in grades 5, 8, and an assigned high school grade will also take the tests in science. For the testing window, please check the State-Required Assessment Calendar. Following the spring testing, students will receive individual score reports electronically via either the Illuminate Parent Portal or the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. More information about accessing these reports can be found on the CAASPP Student Score Reports FUSD website. Reports will include an overall score, and description of the student’s achievement level for English language arts, mathematics, and science if applicable. Students enrolled in the Spanish Dual Immersion program in grade 7 will also take the California Spanish Assessment (CSA). For questions regarding the CSA, please contact the Federal and State Programs Department.
Parents and guardians have the right to exempt their child from taking the CAASPP assessments. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s participation, please contact your school’s principal.
California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) uses:
- Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) online assessments
- California Science Test (CAST)
- California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) - for Special Education students
These assessments are aligned to the Common Core State Standards in literacy and mathematics and include more rigorous content than the previous tests. Through CAASPP, districts will be able to gain valuable information and monitor student progress to ensure that all students master the new standards and are prepared for college and career opportunities beyond high school.

Student score reports (SSRs) will be available electronically via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Approximate release dates are as follows:
- Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) for English language arts (ELA) and math: Summer
- California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) for ELA and math: Summer
- California Science Test (CAST): December
- California Spanish Assessment*: December
*Only administered to grade 7 students enrolled the Spanish Immersion program.
